Frequently asked questions
Should I show my hours on the invoice?
Yes. A VAT invoice must show the quantity and unit price for countable services like hours, and it helps any client check the bill.
Do I charge VAT on my hourly rate?
Only if you are VAT registered. Registration is compulsory once your taxable turnover passes £90,000 in 12 months.
What about CIS on construction work?
If you are a construction subcontractor, the contractor deducts CIS from your labour. Use the CIS deduction calculator to see what you will actually be paid.
